James Morrison finds love again 18 months after wife’s death

James Morrison has found love again a year and a half after his wife, Gill Catchpole, took her own life.

The You Give Me Something singer, 41, shares two daughters with Gill, who was found dead at the family’s home in Gloucestershire in January 2024. She was 45.

Morrison, who discovered her after a friend was unable to reach her, described the loss as “heartbreaking” and said it left him feeling “completely broken”.

After what he previously called the hardest period of his life, the Brit Award–winner appears to have found happiness once more with travel influencer Mariel Jones.

Jones, who describes herself as an “adventurer”, has shared several photos of the pair on her Instagram page, including snaps from trips to Rome, Sicily and Copenhagen. In one picture from July, the couple are seen kissing in the Italian capital, while another shows them smiling over pasta and gelato.

Her social media feed is filled with travel content, lifestyle tips and sunny snapshots from across Europe. Friends of the influencer have commented “cuties” under her posts, which also feature stylish moments from Paris, the French Alps and nights out across the UK. She often documents her love of exploring new cities, local food and live music — passions she and Morrison appear to share.

It marks a new chapter for Morrison, whose hits include Broken Strings and Wonderful World. The singer – who won the Brit Award for Best British Male in 2007 and has written for artists including Demi Lovato and Kelly Clarkson – was with Gill for more than two decades.

Speaking previously on the White Wine Question Time podcast, Morrison recalled how the pair first met when Gill moved into his mum’s house as a lodger.

“It wasn’t the easiest start,” he admitted, “but I still see it as really romantic… the fact that we met each other the way we did. It’s like a little fairy tale.”

Morrison has since spoken about learning to focus on family and music as a way of coping with grief, telling fans that performing again gave him a renewed sense of purpose. Gill also inspired his 2019 album You’re Stronger Than You Know, which he dedicated to her after she showed remarkable strength during a difficult pregnancy with their second child.
