James Milner risks wrath of Liverpool chiefs with blunt European Super League verdict

James Milner left fans in no doubt over where he stands on the proposed European Super League, admitting he "doesn't like it" and pointing out the "injustice" in the situation for his Liverpool teammates.

Milner played the full 90 minutes as the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds in a back-and-forth fixture at Elland Road on Monday night.

The former England midfielder - who wore the armband for the Reds on the night - was pressed for his opinion on the European Super League's controversial plans after the match.

And the midfield veteran railed against his employers with his honest verdict on the planned breakaway division.

"There's obviously a lot going on," Milner told Sky Sports . "We just have to try and be professional.

"Same as everyone [else], there is a lot of questions. I can only say my view, I don't like it and hopefully it doesn't happen.

"The same reasons as everyone else who has been talking out over the last day.

"Obviously it’s been difficult for us, trying to prepare for the game, but I can only imagine what been said about it and I probably agree with most of it."

Milner also criticised Leeds' decision to leave T-shirts with the words 'Champions League: earn it' in the Liverpool dressing room and to warm up wearing them.

He added: "I think the players obviously have no say so the welcome we got to the game felt a bit unjust.

"We’re here to play football and have no control over it. For us we just have to get on the field and try to finish the season strong."
