James Milner names Man City star ahead of Liverpool FC ace Mohamed Salah in career best XI

Liverpool midfielder James Milner has named Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero in his career best XI ahead of current teammate Mohamed Salah.

Milner spent five years at City, helping the Blues win their first ever Premier League title. Prior to his spell on Eastlands, the Englishman featured for Leeds, Newcastle and Aston Villa before deciding to join Liverpool on a free transfer in 2015.

The 33-year-old also picked up 61 caps for England before announcing his retirement from international football in 2016.

Milner was tasked by FourFourTwo to pick the best starting XI of players he has featured alongside and two Man City stars made the cut.

In between the sticks, he opted for Liverpool number one Alisson Becker and also picked his current teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk in his back line.

Vincent Kompany could have been a contender to partner the Dutchman but Milner went for Jonathan Woodgate instead. At left-back, he chose former Arsenal and Chelsea star Ashley Cole.

Moving further up the field, Milner included City maestro David Silva in his midfield trio alongside former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

The Leeds youth graduate was spoilt for choice in terms of attacking options but found a place for Aguero in his XI. The Argentine is joined in the final third by Roberto Firmino and Alan Shearer leaving no place for either Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane despite their excellent form under Jurgen Klopp.

James Milner career best XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Woodgate, Cole; Silva, Lampard, Gerrard; Aguero; Shearer; Firmino.
