James Milner names Liverpool's 'unluckiest man' after Leicester victory

James Milner has praised Roberto Firmino after he broke his poor run of form with a goal and a much-improved performance against Leicester City.

The Liverpool forward has been one of the main talking points in the team over recent matches because of the form of Diogo Jota.

Firmino grabbed his second goal of the season though in the dying stages of the match, heading home a corner to make it 3-0 to Liverpool.

The Brazilian was desperately unlucky not to score earlier too, with his effort first hitting the post and then Marc Albrighton clearing the rebound off the line.

Goal-line technology correctly riled the ball hadn't entirely crossed the line, with 1cm of the ball still on the goal line, in what was a remarkable passage of play.

“We could’ve been out of sight a little bit more," Milner said after the full-time whistle.

"Bobby, I don’t know what he’s been doing, but he was the unluckiest man alive for the first 80 minutes of the game. He deserved his goal, he was brilliant tonight, so unlucky.

“I just said to him, I think I’d have been angrier than him (if he didn’t score). It was just one of those nights. I’m delighted he got it."

Patrice Evra agreed with Milner, admitting he even celebrated the header because Firmino's performance had earned a goal.

“Even as a United fan, when I saw Firmino score, I was quite happy because he’s struggling a lot," Evra said after the match.

" It’s a great performance. I was really surprised (to be happy), I must be tired, it’s been a long day. I think I must’ve thought he was a United player (laughs).

“You can see, everyone wants the best for their team-mates. After that goal, everyone came to celebrate with him. After the game, you see the way Klopp hugs him. It’s a family football club.

"As an ex-United player, you have to give credit to Liverpool Football Club, they’re doing a great job. I wish them well.”
