James Milner mocks Jordan Henderson as captain celebrates nine years at Liverpool

James Milner has aimed a barb at Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson after the 29-year-old celebrated his ninth anniversary at the club.

Henderson, who is a strong contender to win PFA Player of the Year following his inspiration displays from central midfield, first joined the Reds in a £20m move from Sunderland in 2011.

He has been a crucial part of the first-team ever since, making a total of 359 appearances in all competitions, and he was made club captain following the departure of Steven Gerrard in 2015.

On Tuesday Liverpool tweeted a picture of Henderson kissing the Champions League trophy along with the caption "On this day in 2011, @JHenderson joined the Reds. Our skipper," along with an emoji of a love heart.

It did not take long for notorious prankster Milner to respond, and he soon replied with a picture of Henderson when he first joined the club wearing an oversized Liverpool shirt with the caption: "On this day in 2011 Hendo couldn't fill his shirt," along with an emoji of a baby and a laughing crying face.

The tweet was met with amusement from Reds fans, who will no doubt be eager for the return of the Premier League next week, with their side needing a minimum of just two more victories to seal the title.

Henderson recently opened up about how past failures have inspired Liverpool to the recent glory they have experienced, with the Premier League trophy soon to join their recent haul of the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

“All of those things you sort of learn from and it gives you even more hunger to put things right and improve," he told LFC.com.

“Every time we have faced that adversity we have bounced back in a really good way.

"It was just a case of continuing to do that and we knew the time would come where we’d manage to win something.

"Thankfully it came last year.”
