James Milner labels Man Utd "f****** w******" during Liverpool trophy celebration

James Milner has joked that he's never wanted to previously see red on the Premier League trophy because it meant Manchester United had won the title.

The 34-year-old won the third league title of his career but a first since moving to Anfield.

Liverpool ended a thirty year wait for a top flight title this term and were finally presented with the trophy after they'd beaten Chelsea 5-3.

It sparked wild celebrations and Milner can be heard joking about the red ribbons draped on the trophy.

He said: “First time I ever wanted a red ribbon. It’s always been United before. F*cking w*nkers”

Milner was born in Yorkshire and burst onto the scene at Leeds - the club he supported as a boy and who have a fierce rivalry with the Red Devils - in 2002.

He later went on to play for Manchester City when the blue half of the city were in the ascendancy.

The versatile midfielder started in the famous 6-1 win at Old Trafford and twice lifted the Premier League trophy at the Etihad.

He left in 2015 after his contract wasn't renewed and has since played 213 times for the Reds, winning the Champions League 12 months ago.

And before the trophy presentation he admitted that his motivation behind signing for Liverpool was to end their wait for a title.

He said: "It was the reason I signed here in the first place and I’m sure it’s the case for the other lads as well - a club of this size and with its history.

"The fact the wait had been so long meant it was a massive challenge to try and end it and create some of our own history.

"You can see what it means to everyone. The night it was confirmed we were champions, you could see the emotional impact.

"Not just on us and the manager but the supporters and the past players - the legends. Sir Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard, so many of them.

"When they were messaging and telling us congratulations, you know they really meant it and they were properly made-up. That was great. What this team has achieved means a lot to a lot of people and it’s special to part of something like that."
