James Milner holds his hand up over Arsenal error as he hails Liverpool's young stars

James Milner says that Liverpool learned a lot about their young players in their Carabao Cup epic with Arsenal while holding his hand up to his own mistake in the game.

The Reds elder statesman, 33, who captained the side, was one of just three players aged over 25 in Jurgen Klopp's starting line-up for the thrilling 5-5 draw with the Gunners which was followed by a penalty shoot-out victory for the home side that put them through to the last eight of the competition.

Klopp named four teenagers in his side: Rhian Brewster (19); Sepp van den Berg (17); Harvey Elliott (16) and debutant Neco Williams (18) while home-grown hero Curtis Jones (18) came off the bench to net the winning goal in the shoot-out.

Milner , who earlier this month declared that he's still learning every day under Klopp , found the net from the spot in both the main game on 43 minutes and resultant shoot-out, slotting home the first of their five penalties, also eluded in an online message to an error he made.

Taking to Twitter, Milner declared: “How to learn a lot about young players - Concede 5; Have a penalty shootout at the Kop end before adding: “Some great performances last night - and some mistakes (with a monkey covering his eyes and man with his arm up emojis) but unbelievable attitude and heart from this team.”

Milner also included 'top support' emojis plus #crowdunrealasalways and #YNWA.
