James Milner explains brilliant 'old man' celebration after scoring Liverpool penalty against Cardiff

James Milner has explained his hilarious 'old man' celebration after scoring a penalty against Cardiff to complete Liverpool's 2-0 win.

The Reds midfielder was brought on in place of Fabinho midway through the second half after the Brazilian was taken off following a nasty clash of heads just one minute after coming onto the field himself.

The match at the Cardiff City Stadium was finely poised at 1-0 after Gini Wijnaldum opened the scoring with an emphatic volley and Jurgen Klopp was looking to make a few tactical tweaks to take full control of the game.

Then 10 minutes from time Mohamed Salah tried to twist and turn away from Sean Morrison but was brought down as the defender wrapped his arms around the Egyptian's chest.

Milner then stepped up and coolly slammed the ball into the bottom left corner of Neil Etheridge's net.

He ran away to celebrate with Roberto Firmino but shook off the attacker - and began to hold his back and hobble down the touchline pretending he had a walking stick.

The midfielder said: "Virgil [van Dijk] has been giving me plenty of stick for being old.

"So it was just one for him really."
