James McPake reveals Rangers helping hand in Dundee promotion as he issues cheeky next season request

Dundee boss James McPake admits he went to Michael Beale for tip to beat Kilmarnock and seal promotion.

And the Dens Park boss joked that he need to go back to the Ibrox first-team coach to ask how to beat Rangers.

McPake was introduced to Beale through the sports scientist who worked with both at Coventry and Liverpool.

Ahead of the crucial showdown with Tommy Wright 's men, Beale offered him advice on how to take on the side.

The boss revealed that he went to Steven Gerrard 's trusted lieutenant ahead of Hibs when Dundee faced them in the Betfred Cup.

He told PLZ he might need to pick up the phone to him again next term - but for guidance on how to shock the Premiership champions.

He said: "Michael Beale has been a great help. I asked him how to beat Kilmarnock, how to beat Hibs and I’m now going to have to be asking him 'how do you beat Rangers Michael?'.

"He’s outstanding. I met him through Andy O’Boyle who was the sport scientist at Coventry, worked with Michael at Liverpool, and worked with the Premier League.

"He’s been great. I think he is with all young coaches and all young managers.

"To be able to go and speak to him is great, but there are loads of people who will help and I’m not afraid to ask for that."
