James McPake insists Rangers keeper Jon McLaughlin should have seen red in a penalty flashpoint during a defeat which leaves Dundee at the foot of the Premiership.
The Dark Blues head coach was furious that referee Bobby Madden only booked the shot stopper for taking the legs from under Paul McMullan before Jason Cummings missed from the spot.
McPake was red carded by the whistler after full time for voicing his opinion on the incident at full-time and he’s convinced McLaughlin should have walked.
He said: “I know the rule is if you make a genuine attempt and people will disagree and say it's a genuine attempt. Paul McMullan is clearly by him and the leg comes out. If it's Adam Legzdins would my answer be different, probably not.
"I am just giving an honest opinion. Having seen it back I think the arm catches him as well. TV footage will maybe show that better. I am looking at it from a high camera.
"We miss the penalty but we still have half-an-hour to play with 11 v 10. I like the rule that if you make a genuine attempt it's not a red card offence but Paul McMullan is clearly by him by the time he makes an attempt.
“The rule is that if the goalkeeper makes a genuine attempt for the ball then it’s a booking.
“I’ve seen it from a high camera and I saw it at the time, my view may change when I see it from another angle.
"My emotions are raw as it’s just after the game and we are gutted we got nothing.
“What I see is that Paul McMullan is clearly by McLaughlin and he pulls him down.

"If he’s making a genuine attempt then his leg’s already out and it looks to me as though the arm is out as well.
“It’s a genuine attempt to stop McMullan rather than a genuine attempt to get the ball."
McPake also admitted it was the same old failings which left his side with nothing to show for an impressive but wasteful display and he had positive news on an injury to Leigh Griffiths who limped off in the first half.
He said: “We won’t be blaming individuals, Jason came on and put in a great shift despite being not well. What I can’t ask for is any more effort or endeavour as what the players have been giving me has been outstanding. It’s the final third where we aren’t clicking and not putting the ball in the net and that’s the frustrating thing.
“Leigh has a slight ankle injury and we will assess that."
