James McFadden voices Rangers dismay as he insists stars should have 'gone up the tunnel' and blanked fans

Disappointed James McFadden believes Rangers' players should have followed Covid protocols and snubbed crowds outside of Ibrox.

Expectant fans gathered ahead of the crucial St Mirren game in the knowledge Steven Gerrard's side are in touching distance of a title win.

Following the 3-0 victory over the Buddies, the delighted stars raced to the stadium gates and enjoyed their moment with fans.

However supporters have been criticised for breaching restrictions amid the pandemic.

Pundit McFadden told Sky Sports it was the wrong decision for staff and management to run out of the stadium with the club on the brink of Premiership glory.

He said: "The players are emotional because they think that they are over the line, in all but a couple of games to go, but you’d rather not see it.

"You’d rather the players stuck to the protocols and go up the tunnel, but I can see why they went to celebrate.

"I don’t think the fans should be outside the stadium, but they are, the players are aware of that and they wanted to go and celebrate with the fans but for me they should have gone up the tunnel and waited for a later date to celebrate in the correct manner."
