James McFadden vents over Rangers penalty no call as pundit takes aim at Don Robertson's 'bizarre decision'

Pundit James McFadden reckons Rangers were denied a clear and obvious penalty in their workmanlike 1-0 win over Kilmarnock.

But the Scotland national team legend also believes the Premiership champions in waiting were also bailed out by referee Don Robertson.

James Tavernier appealed for a spot kick in the first half after Rory MacKenzie collided with the Ibrox skipper as he was set to pull the trigger as he raced onto a Cedric Itten cross.

The man in the middle waved played on and Jonathan Sutherland revealed the former Motherwell and Everton man was left miffed while watching the game live.

McFadden said on Sportscene: "No wonder. I think Tavernier can just step onto it and Rory MacKenzie comes through the back.

"It depends, I mean we keep talking about how much contact there is but, for me, there is enough to put James Tavernier off.

"He's not going for the ball."

Fellow pundit Steven Naismith added: "I'm the same. MacKenzie is not going for the ball and he is in the wrong position at the end when the ball comes across.

"He's trying to be cute but at the end of the day it is a penalty."

And McFadden was equally annoyed with Robertson and his assistant referee for failing to award a foul to Kilmarnock after Leon Balogoun appeared to haul down Danny Whitehall in the second half on the edge of the Rangers box.

He added: "Again, it is a bizarre decision from the referee.

"The debate would initially be is it inside or outside the box? It's outside the box but there are two hands on his back and his feet are tripped.

"The referee has missed it, it is a bizarre decision, we're looking at it saying 'is it inside or outside not is that a foul?'"
