James McClean winds up Sunderland fans after play-off final defeat

James McClean riled up Sunderland fans by congratulating Charlton after their play-off final win over the Black Cats.

The Ireland winger played for the North East side between 2011-13 after moving to England from Derry City.

But the 30-year-old has made it plain in the past that he doesn't hold his former club close to his heart.

And when Sunderland lost their League 1 play-off final 2-1 to Charlton on Sunday to miss out on promotion, McClean couldn't resist stoking the fire again.

He wrote on Twitter after the match: "Well done Charlton".

Needless to say it did not go down well with fans of his former club, while others enjoyed watching the battle from afar.

Back in November 2017, the now Stoke City player said on Twitter that he was ashamed to have played for Sunderland.

He made the comment in response to a fan of the Black Cats who said he was ashamed McClean played for his club.

McClean is currently in the Ireland training camp in Portugal as they prepare for upcoming European qualifiers with Denmark and Gibraltar.
