James McClean signs for Wigan - how fans have reacted

The vast majority of Wigan fans have welcomed James McClean back to the club with open arms.

The Republic of Ireland international is back at the Latics six years after leaving them for West Brom.

He was unveiled to the club's supporters prior to Wigan's 1-1 draw with Wycombe on Tuesday night and many of them are delighted to see the winger back.

One fan commented: "Amazing that we can attract players back to us from a higher level. Feels so good being a Wigan fan again. Onwards and upwards!!"

Another said: "Can't believe this, certainly the best signing yet. Absolute quality in League 1."

One other post read: "Can’t argue with his ability. He knows the club and what we’re about."

McClean remained popular with Wigan fans after donating £5,000 to the Wigan Athletic Supporters’ Club Crowdfunder last year as the Club’s supporters raised over £750,000 to save Latics, prior to the acquisition of the Club by Phoenix 2021 Limited.

McClean arrives for an undisclosed fee from Stoke and will add a wealth of experience to Leam Richardson’s team, having made over 300 appearances in the Premier League and Championship, reports the Irish Mirror.

It is hoped he might be available for Wigan’s League One trip to Charlton on Saturday.
