James McClean hits back at Milwall fans following abuse during visit to The Den

James McClean took a swipe at Milwall fans after receiving abuse from the stands throughout their 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic.

Throughout his long spell in England with the likes of Sunderland, Stoke, West Brom and now Wigan, McClean has been the subject of persistent sectarian abuse from sections of fans at games.

And his decision not to wear a poppy during the traditional November period often provokes a spike in attacks from fans of other sides.

With Wigan's Championship season resuming on Saturday at The Den, McClean once again faced up to a hard time as certain Milwall fans took aim at him.

There were chants directed at the Republic of Ireland winger while he also appeared to have objects thrown in his direction as he went to take a corner.

Known for its hostile atmosphere for visiting teams, The Den lived appeared to have lived up to its name given Milwall fans' treatment of the Derry native.

But McClean seemed to think differently and he took to Instagram to poke fun at the London club.

He saw the funny side as he posted a picture of himself alongside a joke picture of a lion roaring, seeming to make light of the 'Lions' Den' in South East London.

On the pitch, the visitors took an early lead through fellow Irish international Will Keane before they had their lead relinquished seven minutes later as Milwall's Zian Flemming notched the equaliser.
