James McCarthy completes move from Everton to Crystal Palace

James McCarthy has completed his move from Everton to Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old midfielder moves to Selhurst Park after six years at Goodison following his £13m move from Wigan Athletic in 2013.

The only one of Roberto Martinez's Wigan Athletic old boys who could be considered a success after following their former manager to Goodison Park (the others were Arouna Kone, Joel Robles and Antolin Alcaraz), McCarthy was a considerable purchase for Everton when he joined six years ago in a move that at the time made him Everton's second most expensive player.

He played 34 Premier League matches in his first season at the club which saw the Blues finish fifth having amassed 72 points but went on to suffer a series of injuries that hampered his ability to build on that encouraging start.

The Republic of Ireland international went on to make 133 appearances for the club, scoring six goals.

Announcing the move on their official website, Everton thanked McCarthy for his commitment throughout his time at Goodison and wished him success for the future.
