ACTOR James McAvoy has been spotted filming in Inverclyde for a new television series.
The X-Men actor was seen as production crews descended on Customhouse Quay, Greenock, today to film scenes for the six-part Sky crime drama Meantime.
Shetland star and Celebrity Traitors contestant Mark Bonnar was also snapped taking part in the filming.
Based on a book written by comedian Frankie Boyle, the show will follow Felix McAveety, played by Mr McAvoy, an addict whose best friend is found murdered in a Glasgow park, leaving him as the police’s most convenient suspect.
Felix sets out to clear his name, recruiting an ageing former detective inspector turned crime novelist and a chaotic friend for help.
Directed by Jon S Baird, who McAvoy previously worked with on Filth (2013), promises to be darkly comedic as they race through the murkier edges of contemporary Scotland and events rapidly spiral out of control.
The programme is set in the aftermath of the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, and its characters have encounters with drug dealers, AI, independence activists, intelligence services, and stalkers.
The BAFTA award winning actor’s sister, Joy McAvoy, is also in the cast alongside Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston, EastEnders’ Laurie Brett, Still Game’s Greg Hemphill, and Benedict Wong from Marvel’s Avengers series.
The Sky Original will launch in 2027 exclusively on Sky and NOW.
Filming has also taken place in Glasgow’s Merchant City and Stirling City Centre.
James McAvoy, 47, gained recognition in the mid-2000s for his roles in the Chronicles of Narnia (2005) and The Last King of Scotland (2006).
Since then, the Drumchapel-born actor has gone from strength to strength starring in Hollywood blockbusters and critically acclaimed independent films.
His directorial debut, California Schemin', has been widely praised by film critics and currently sits at a 96 per cent positive rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
Four Greenock streets are subject to restrictions while filming for Meanwhile takes place.
Until 10pm on Friday, May 29, there will be no waiting, no loading, no unloading permitted at any time on Customhouse Quay, Open Shore, Customhouse Place and Dock Breast.
The limits apply to the full parking area at Customhouse Quay.
Open Shore is restricted to the west side, opposite the west gable of Customhouse for 85 metres and on the east side along the east gable of Customhouse.
The full south side of Customhouse is affected.
The road at the entrance to the Beacon rear car park is restricted for 40 metres on both sides
No diversion is in place.
Camera crews were also spotted at James Watt Dock in Greenock later in the morning.
