James McAtee sets his next targets after signing new Man City deal

James McAtee is aiming to get even more first-team experience at Manchester City this season as well as score his first senior goal for the club.

The highly-rated playmaker has committed his long-term future to City after he put pen to paper on a new contract that runs until the summer of 2026.

McAtee has been making waves in the youth ranks with his impressive performances and has a massive 19 goals to his name already this season in just 20 games, making him the Blues' top scorer across all levels.

The 19-year-old's form hasn't gone unnoticed and, with his previous contract set to expire in 2023, he was being linked with a shock departure from the Etihad, with Manchester United among the interested parties rumoured.

However, McAtee has put an end to all that speculation and now has set his goals for the rest of the campaign.

“I am not really the type of player to set myself goals or targets. I would probably say to try and push to get more appearances," he explained.

"I am excited for the future and I want to see what I can do. I want to improve my goals and get more goals in PL2.

"Hopefully I can get my first goal for City too.”

McAtee made his Premier League debut for City in the 3-0 win over Everton in November and now he is looking to continue to improve in first-team training.

“When I made my Premier League debut, I went home that night and I couldn’t sleep," he added.

"I was so happy. In Premier League 2, I have just tried to add goals to my game and luckily I have been able to. When I first joined in training with the first team the tempo was so fast, but then I got used to it and it has made me such a better player.

"There is a lot more to come and I have still got a lot to improve on. I can make my game better in many ways. There is so much more to come.

“I am over the moon to extend my future at this club and to be able to train with the best players and staff in the world. I am really happy.

"My family are really happy about it and I spoke to them a lot about it. It was a big decision and hopefully, we have made the right one.”
