James McArthur won't let Crystal Palace dream of Europe ahead of Liverpool test

James McArthur has warned his Crystal Palace team-mates not to get carried away by talk of a push for European football after Saturday's win at Bournemouth.

The Eagles picked up where they left off, with goals from Luka Milivojevic and Jordan Ayew making it four wins on the spin without conceding a goal.

Captain Milivojevic talked up the possibility of breaking into the European places after the game - with Roy Hodgson's side now just two points shy of seventh place Sheffield United - but McArthur has warned against over-excitement ahead of their trip to Liverpool this week.

"It’s always each game as it comes," McArthur said. "At one point in the season I heard a lot of talk of ‘Europe, Europe, Europe’ and we went on a run that we weren’t happy with.

"It bites you in the bum if you look too far ahead and start planning for things which aren’t there just now, so all we can do is look at the next game - and it’s going to be a tough game against Liverpool - and try and get into that and cause an upset."

With a smaller squad than most in the Premier League, Palace will be pushed physically across the remaining eight games, but McArthur was quick to hail the fitness work carried out across the break to put them in good shape for the restart.

"I think that Scotty’s [Guyett, fitness coach] done an amazing job, not only when we came back [to training] but with the runs he gave everyone to do when we were off and not knowing when we would be back."
