James Maxwell's Rangers initiation delights Steven Gerrard as youngster belts out Bruno Mars

It's a rite of passage for any player joining a squad - whether a new signing or an academy graduate.

Stood up in front of their team-mates, nowhere to hide, forced to belt out a song of which they probably had no hand in choosing.

And it was no different for Rangers ' James Maxwell on the club's recent trip to Dubai.

The 18-year-old prospect joined the senior side for warm weather training and, judging by footage of him singing Bruno Mars, that appears to now make him a member of Steven Gerrard 's group.

The Ibrox boss watched on with a grin as Maxwell performed a rendition of The Lazy Song on the team bus.

The teenage defender is considered one of the brightest talents emerging through the ranks at Auchenhowie.

He's yet to make a first-team debut but played every minute for Graeme Murty 's Rangers development squad in this season's UEFA Youth League campaign.

You can watch his initiation video below.
