James Maddison sends Liverpool title message and reveals he has taken Jamie Carragher advice

Leicester City star James Maddison is putting his recent form down to taking the advice of Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

Maddison has been in fine form for the Foxes this season, especially in recent games, with three goals in his last three league outings.

His recent strike in the 2-0 win over Chelsea on Tuesday night helped take Leicester top of the table, and leave Liverpool in fourth and four points off the Premier League summit.

The Leicester No.10 has admitted to putting in extra practice on trying to score more goals, and referenced a piece of analysis from Carragher that spurred him on.

Maddison told Sky Sports: “We played Sheffield United earlier in the season and Jamie Carragher said "he needs to get numbers up James Maddison if he wants to be challenging for the England spots and being talked about in the same bracket as others".

“Me, the gaffer and Jack the analyst sat down and looked at where I can get more goals. I played a bit deeper as a No 8 today, and also little things like breaking into the box and breaking that last lines and almost smelling where the ball is going to drop.

“It is not an easy thing to do and Frank Lampard was the best at it, arriving late and scoring goals and that is what I did today.

“That is something I will keep improving on, everyone wants numbers and I want numbers because I want everyone talking about me.”

Carragher watched Maddison’s interview where the midfielder referenced his previous analysis, and seemed to enjoy it.

“Loving the @Madders10 interview with @GeoffShreeves no cliches, confident a little cheeky & very entertaining,” wrote Carragher.

Like his manager Brendan Rodgers, Maddison refused to be drawn on addressing Leicester’s title credentials - and sent a clear message that he is happy for the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United to get all of the attention.

“You can get sidetracked, we are top at the minute because we don't think like that,” said Maddison, when asked why he would acknowledge that Leicester are a real title challenger.

“The most important game is the next game, as cliche as it is that's how we have to work because we have that mentality.

“We're at the top of the league because we work hard we're not there by fluke. We'll do our business in the background, let them talk about Liverpool, Man United and Spurs, we'll just keep doing what we're doing.”
