James Maddison's chances of signing for Manchester United amid transfer interest

The odds have been slashed on James Maddison joining Manchester United after a flurry of bets on the Leicester playmaker's future.

United have been keeping tabs on Maddison, 22, this summer as the Reds focus their recruitment efforts on young English players.

Odds displayed by comparison website Oddschecker show Maddison is best priced 5/6 to secure a move to United, while he is as short as 1/3 to make the move to Old Trafford with some bookies.

Asked if he had United's interest on his mind during England's recent European Under-21 Championship campaign, he responded: "No, you have just got to ignore that and take it all in your stride.

"As a 17 year-old boy I’d started five games for Coventry and saw on my phone that I was being linked with Tottenham and Liverpool.

"With transfer talk you need to take it as a compliment that people are even talking about you, it won’t distract me."

Maddison played 36 times in the Premier League last season, scoring seven goals and notching seven assists.

Meanwhile, United appear to be prioritising a move for Sean Longstaff, 21, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer intent on the young central midfielder being signed in time for him to play some part on the club's pre-season tour of Australia and Southeast Asia.

United also want Harry Maguire, 26, but were knocked back with their opening £70million offer for the Leicester centre-back.

Leicester wanted £75million for Maguire last summer and his value has only risen over the past 12 months following another impressive individual campaign.
