What James Maddison has said about his future after Brendan Rodgers' Manchester United warning

Manchester United were dealt a blow in their already slim chances of signing James Maddison in January when Brendan Rodgers said Leicester do not intend to let any players leave the club mid-season.

Maddison has played a key role in Leicester's surge up the table, with the Foxes sitting in second place in the Premier League behind leaders Liverpool.

United want Maddison but a winter transfer is highly unlikely and Rodgers warned potential suitors for his players against trying their luck in the new year.

“We want to grow, and there’s a lot of development left in this squad," Rodgers said. "We’ve absolutely no plans to lose anyone in January.

"Our job is to keep what we have and if there’s an opportunity to improve the squad we will look to do that. If not, we will carry on with the squad we have, which is very strong.”

Speculation surrounding Maddison's future at Leicester will likely intensify as the season goes on and the summer transfer window nears.

Maddison's future was also a hot topic last summer and speaking about his future back in June, the England international said he was remaining calm amid links with some of the Premier League's biggest clubs.

“You have just got to ignore that and take it all in your stride," he told Sky Sports.

“As a 17 year-old boy I’d started five games for Coventry and saw on my phone that I was being linked with Tottenham and Liverpool.

“With transfer talk you need to take it as a compliment that people are even talking about you, it won’t distract me.”
