James Maddison pictured in training ahead of visit of Newcastle United

James Maddison is considered an injury doubt for the visit of Newcastle United on Sunday.

But the in-form English playmaker has been pictured in training with his Leicester City team-mates on Thursday.

Maddison is battling to be fit to take on the Magpies after injuring his ankle in the Foxes' victory over Tottenham.

The 22-year-old has his ankle strapped in ice after scoring the winner at the King Power Stadium, and subsequently underwent a scan on his injury.

Leicestershire Live reports if Maddison had not sustained a knock, he would have been training out on the pitches with Jamie Vardy, Ben Chilwell and the other stars that were rested on Tuesday.

Kelechi Iheanacho and Hamza Choudhury, late substitutes at Kenilworth Road, were also out on the field.

On Tuesday, City assistant Chris Davies said an appearance against Newcastle seemed unlikely.

“Madders, he got a knock on his ankle,”  said Davies  after the victory at Luton.

“He looks a doubt for the weekend. We’ll see how he goes and how he recovers next week.”

United received a quadruple injury boost of their own ahead of the tricky assignment at Leicester earlier this week.

Andy Carroll, Allan Saint-Maximin, Sean Longstaff and Florian Lejeune were all able to take part in training.
