James Maddison lands himself in hot water with Tottenham fans after critical tweets emerge

Former Newcastle United target James Maddison has landed himself in hot water with Tottenham Hotspur supporters just days after sealing a move from Leicester City. The England international completed his £45million move from the King Power Stadium following the Foxes relegation from the top flight.

The Magpies had two approaches for Maddison knocked back last summer and were tipped to return for the attacking midfielder this summer, but he's said to have preferred a move to Ange Postecoglou's side. The move become a reality earlier this week, but it's taken just a matter of days for rival supporters to dig out old tweets of the 26-year-old criticising his new club.

The tweets, which have now been deleted, saw Maddison take aim at former Tottenham forward Gareth Bale and criticize the Welshman, claiming arch rival Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere was ten times the player.

Maddison also appeared to wish a heady defeat on Spurs, hoping for Luis Suarez to be amongst the goals. The new Spurs arrival tweeted his 'hate' for the club back in 2013.

Those tweets came with Maddison just 16-years-old and are no longer available to see on his social media. More recent tweets from the England international heap praise on Harry Kane as the best striker in the world.

Maddison will link up with Kane at Tottenham next season just as he has for Gareth Southgate's side this summer on international duty.

Newcastle are said to have turned their attention elsewhere after refusing to meet Leicester City's valuation for the player following their relegation to the Championship. The Magpies are set to finalise a move for Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali next week as their transfer business begins to ramp up.
