James Keatings set for Montrose move as League One side strike ambitious loan deal with Raith Rovers

Montrose are set to sign James Keatings in an ambitious loan deal until January.

The Gable Endies have agreed a deal with Raith Rovers to take him to Links Park until the turn of the year.

Keatings moved to Raith in the summer but has struggled to get regular game time with the Fifers, who are in Premier Sports Cup action against Celtic on Thursday night.

Montrose boss Stewart Petrie is looking to put another promotion push together and believes the 29-year-old could play a major role.

The former Celtic youngster has also had permanent spells at Hamilton, Hearts and Hibs.

Keatings began his career at Celtic before joining Accies and playing a part in their promotion play-off winning squad of 2014 before then winning the Championship with the Jambos.

He'd then cross the Edinburgh divide to arrive at Easter Road, also winning the second tier there as well as a Scottish Cup.

Now the striker is looking to help Petrie's attractive squad make another run at Championship football after coming close to the second tier last season, narrowly losing to Morton in the play-offs.
