James 'Jas' Murphy dead - Legendary Kerry captain passes away aged 98

Legendary Kerry captain James 'Jas' Murphy has passed away aged 98.

Murphy is best remembered for captaining the Kingdom to All-Ireland glory in 1953 with the game played in front of a record attendance for a GAA game with some 86,000 attending.

In his prolific career, Murphy won two Munster titles and also previously played for Cork.

Murphy passed away peacefully on the 1 December and is survived by his four children.

The news comes just hours after the announcement of the passing of legendary Cork hurler Seanie O'Leary.

O'Leary was aged 69 at his passing and won three All-Ireland medals in a row between 1976 and 1978.

The Cork forward retired with three All-Stars and nine Munster titles as well as four National Leagues in a glittering inter-county career.
