As you probably found out or know from watching, Las Vegas professional gambler James Holzhauer won his first game back on Jeopardy! Wednesday night, the opening round of his possible run to a Tournament of Champions title.
Although he defeated his opponents handily, he didn’t make huge bets on one daily double and in Final Jeopardy, and that was of course by design — you don’t take home the money you win in tournament games.
So when he got to a daily double, Holzhauer nearly had everyone jumping out of their seats. It appeared he was ready to tell Alex Trebek he was going to shove all-in to bet all of his $17,600, a true “daily double.”
Instead, he said, “Let’s make it a tru … ly disappointing $1,109.”
