James Holder – co-founder of Superdry – jailed for raping woman

  • James Holder, the 54-year-old co-founder of the fashion brand Superdry, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of rape.
  • Holder was found guilty by a jury at Cirencester Courthouse last week, despite denying the charge and claiming the sexual activity was consensual.
  • The incident occurred after a night out drinking when Holder returned to the woman’s home, fell asleep, then woke and beckoned her into her bedroom before raping her.
  • Sentencing him at Bristol Crown Court, Recorder David Chidgey described the offence as 'a despicable piece of sexual violence'.
  • The judge stated that the crime was driven by Holder's 'sense of entitlement' and his 'casual disregard for the victim’s absolute right to say what she wanted to do with her own body'.
