The wife of James Haskell has blamed his bad behaviour on lack of food and ITV - saying the show is being “orchestrated” to get a reaction out of him.
Viewers were shocked by James' attitude and anger on the show on Saturday night, with some saying he bullied Kate Garraway whilst he also described the camp as a “circus of stupidity” and grew frustrated with the other celebs.
He is now expected to be evicted within the next few days but his wife Chloe Madeley urged fans not to read too much into his anger and also said his jungle diet was a factor in his sudden bad moods.
Writing on instagram, Chloe said: “The poor guy is in a right old grump. His BMR(basic metebolic rate) is around 2500 cals his TDEE(Total daily energy expenditure) is around 4000 cals so to go down to 800 maybe 1200 with stars, is clearly taking its toll on him.
“I think people should remember this is a TV show orchestrated to get big reactions out of big characters, and maybe take it a tad less seriously.”
On Saturday's show James insisted the camp give an immediate answer to the question in the Dingo Dollar Challenge.
When Kate Garraway suggested others might like to take their time over the decision, he replied: “Kate, there’s nothing to think about. I don’t understand what the stress is, it’s simple A, stick your hand up in the air or B stick your hand up in the air, majority wins, I don’t get it.”
Speaking to Andrew Maxwell later about the incident, he added: “It irritates the p*** out of me because it’s that simple. Explain the question, answer the question A or B, it’s a circus of stupidity.
"I can’t do it, I’m too intelligent and too switched on, just put your hands right up, let someone count them, right the majority win, shut up and lets move on.”
James also took control in trying to help decide who did Bushtucker trials, which appeared to annoy other campmates and viewers, as he suggested they needed to share the airtime “showcasing themselves”.
He is now amongst the favourites to be the next evicted contestant on Sunday night.
