James Harden may have not been the only reason Russell Westbrook liked Houston

The opportunity to partner up with former Oklahoma City Thunder teammate James Harden has been the reported reason Houston was Russell Westbrook’s preferred destination. However, he’d also welcomed the idea of heading to Miami to play with Jimmy Butler for the Heat — who appeared to be the frontrunners in the Westbrook trade talks before news broke on Thursday.

But there may have been another reason Westbrook liked the idea of playing for the Rockets. According to Brett Dawson and Michael Lee of The Athletic, Westbrook is also “intrigued by the possibilities in Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni’s offense.”

While with Oklahoma City, Westbrook had Steven Adams anchoring the paint. However, the point guard’s game is all about what he can do off the drive. As much as he worked well with Adams off the pick and roll, Westbrook now has the chance to drive with no one taking up space in the key, while his Rockets teammates wait around the perimeter for him to kick the ball out.
