James Harden got pulled over while riding an electric scooter in China

While on his Adidas promotional tour in China, James Harden ran into a bit of trouble with the law.

According to Unus Alladin of the South China Morning Post, the Houston Rockets All-Star was reported stopped the middle of the road for a traffic violation on Saturday afternoon.

In photos and videos that have gone viral, the Houston Rockets shooting guard is seen riding a battery-powered scooter with his friends and then being stopped by a policeman, who pulls him over for breaking local road regulations.

He was apparently travelling from Shangri-La Hotel to Cao Yang Road, a 4.4km trip at around 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

It is not known whether he was given a traffic citation or whether police in Shanghai had any idea who Harden was.

Harden was riding a rented scooter helmet-less probably to beat Shanghai’s notorious traffic.

Harden took to Chinese social media Weibo to apologize, as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are banned on the mainland.

“China, thank you for your hospitality. I would like to apologise for violating traffic rules during my scooter ride today,” he wrote on Weibo. “Not a good example obviously but I was just trying to enjoy the city as much as possible. Thank you for your understanding and I’ll make sure to abide by the rules next time here.”
