James Harden donating meals from his restaurant to Houstonians in need

In James Harden’s farewell message after being traded from the Rockets to the Brooklyn Nets, he said he was “forever indebted” to the City of Houston and added that it was “far from a goodbye.”

Over a month later, with many residents of his former NBA city battling a prolonged power and water crisis resulting from a winter storm, Harden is following through on those words.

Through his new Houston restaurant “Thirteen,” Harden is donating 3,000 meals on Saturday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. local time. The meals are being given out in a drive-through distribution format in front of Thirteen, located at 1911 Bagby. People can also text (346) 857-9617 to have food delivered to them. The meals are available to anyone in need.

Harden is also pledging to help residents with food, water, supplies, manpower, and contractors to clean up and rebuild properties that were damaged by burst pipes during this week’s frigid temperatures.

As for basketball, Harden is less than two weeks away from making his return when the Nets visit Houston on Wednesday, March 3.
