James Harden bothered by shoulder: ‘I couldn’t get the lift that I usually have’

James Harden’s 30-point streak almost came to a close against the Dallas Mavericks on Monday as the Rockets star struggled through a left shoulder strain. Approaching the game’s final minutes, he had only 20 points. He scored 11 in the last two.

Despite having difficulty with his shot, Harden did what we really should all be expecting at this point. He sealed the game for Houston and continued to make jaw-dropping point totals look positively pedestrian.

That doesn’t mean the shoulder is not bothersome. Although he told reporters after the game that the injury was no excuse for his inefficient night, it was clearly affecting his performance.

I couldn’t get the lift that I usually have for my shot, but that’s no excuse. I’m just happy we won the game.

The Rockets have one more outing against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday before the NBA All-Star Break. Harden will be competing in the All-Star Game but should have additional time to rest and recover so the shoulder does not become a lingering issue.
