The success of Superman had fans asking when we’d see David Corenswet back as Clark Kent and James Gunn promised it’d be soon. And he wasn’t lying. We now have a title and release date for the next film and…it’s as soon as 2027.
Superman hits theaters this July and fans came out of it knowing that we at least had Supergirl to look forward to in the summer of 2026. Now, we have Man of Tomorrow heading our way in July of 2027! It really is a great time to be a fan of DC Comics! Gunn posted the news on Instagram with an image of Superman and Lex Luthor standing side by side.
Man of Tomorrow is the title of an animated film that was released in 2020 and a comic run for the character from the 90s. So there is a lot to get excited about with the news but what makes me the happiest is that the next Superman film isn’t going to be a team-up or something that is years down the line. It really is the next big film after Supergirl and that’s a great thing!
Gunn had said on Threads that after the Peacemaker press tour, he was going to be focused on writing the sequel for Superman but fans didn’t expect to get an update on the film that quickly. But that is one of the joys of the DCU. Gunn and Peter Safran make sure that fans know what is coming and approximately when we’ll see it and that’s all I can ask for.
From the image alone, it does seem like any fear that we wouldn’t see Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor was moot because Clark and Lex standing side by side is truly a gift to us all. But until we know more, at least we know that our beloved Clark Kent is coming back, and soon!
