James Garner prediction made as Nottingham Forest aim to pile pressure on Barnsley boss

New boss Steve Cooper has been tipped to get the best out of James Garner at Nottingham Forest.

The Manchester United midfielder is in his second spell at the City Ground, having previously spent the latter half of last season with the Reds.

He is due to spend the whole campaign with Forest, who now have his former England Under-17s manager, Cooper, in charge.

The Sun say United inserted a break clause as part of his summer switch to the Reds, meaning he could be recalled in January.

That is something which is generally standard practice in loan deals - making Garner’s situation nothing unusual.

Opposition verdict

Nottingham Forest will be against a manager under pressure, rather than having one of their own, when they face Barnsley at Oakwell on Wednesday night.

While Steve Cooper was making an encouraging start to life in charge of the Reds with a 1-1 draw against Millwall, the Tykes were losing 1-0 at newly-promoted Blackpool.

The defeat left Barnsley, who reached the play-offs under Valerian Ismael last season, 20th in the Championship table.

Under new boss Markus Schopp, the Tykes have struggled to reproduce last season’s form and have just one win from nine games so far.

Standout performers

Steve Cooper picked up a point from his first game in charge of Nottingham Forest with a 1-1 draw against Millwall - and the fans have delivered their verdict on the players involved.

The Reds threatened to open the scoring in the first-half with Lewis Grabban and Joe Lolley both going close, but the away side took the lead after half an hour through Matt Smith.

Forest had to wait until after the interval to level things up, and their goal came via a huge slice of luck when Max Lowe's deep cross looped over Millwall goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski and into the net.

As part of our matchday coverage, we are asking Forest fans to deliver their verdict and rate the individual performances of Steve Cooper's team.

Millwall reflections

Nottingham Forest secured their first point under Steve Cooper as they drew 1-1 with Millwall on Saturday.

We discussed the game on this week's Garibaldi Red podcast with Matt Davies, Mikey Clarke and former BBC Radio Nottingham presenter Robin Chipperfield.

Here is a transcript of part of the conversation. You can listen to the full episode here, or watch it here.

What was your verdict on the game?

MC : "It was a fair result. I quite enjoyed it.

"I think it's the first game I've been two in the last two years I've genuinely enjoyed. I'm not sure if that's because there's more optimism with Cooper here.
