James Gandolfini's widow Deborah Lin revealed it was "surreal" to see his son Michael playing a young Tony Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark.
The prequel movie to The Sopranos is being released later this year, with the 22-year-old son of the late actor appearing as the young version of the legendary character.
A trailer to the film was released in early July, and Deborah - Michael's step-mum - said it must have taken a lot of "courage" for the actor to play such a personal role.
Speaking to The Post, the 53-year-old explained: "It was almost surreal to see Michael in the trailer.
"I know it took a lot of courage for him to take this role. It was very emotional. But the whole family is just so proud of him. His father would be very proud."

The Many Saints of Newark is a big-screen revival of the hit mobster TV show giving a glimpse into life years before Tony became boss.
James died in 2013 at the age of 51.
Michael was only 14 when his actor father collapsed in his hotel room while on holiday in Rome and died soon afterwards.
The young actor previously admitted he'd never seen a single episode of the Sopranos before he got the part.
He got into character by binge-watching the entire show and listening to hours of his father's speeches.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Michael said: "It was really hard to watch my dad. I recorded four hours of his monologues with Melfi and walked around New York with them constantly, constantly, constantly playing in my ear."
In the trailer, Michael perfectly adopts Tony's New Jersey accent.
The prequel is set in Newark, New Jersey, in the 1960s against a backdrop of unrest.

When he was asked how he was able to convey the rage of the character with ease, he explained that the winning formula was cutting back his hours of rest.

Sharing on his technique, he shared: "Lack of sleep will p** you off to no end.
"Sleep two or three hours a night for two nights before you have a really violent scene. Every single thing that anyone does will piss you off. I'll do a lot of weird things; bang my head on things."
