James Forrest to miss Celtic pre-season opener amid Covid close contact scare

Celtic winger James Forrest is missing from the pre-season tour of Wales amid a Covid scare.

Ange Postecoglou 's squad are ramping up their preparations for the start of Premiership campaign with Champions League qualifiers on the horizon.

However, Forrest will remain at home after the club confirmed he has been identified as a close contact of someone who has returned a positive Covid-19 case.

The Scotland cap will miss Postecoglou's first game in charge tomorrow against Sheffield Wednesday.

The statement does not say whether he will be allowed to join up with the Celtic first-team in time for the friendly encounters with Charlton and Bristol City in the coming days.

The 29-year-old was missing for most of last season having been hampered by injury.

He returned towards the end of the campaign and earned a spot in Steve Clarke's Scotland squad at Euro 2020.

Christopher Jullien has also remained back in Glasgow while continuing his recovery from a long-term injury.
