James Forrest's sole Celtic return frustration revealed as John Kennedy hails 'one of the best professionals' he's coached

Interim boss John Kennedy admits returning James Forrest was disappointed not to score more as Celtic cruised into the next round of the Scottish Cup.

It was a comfortable evening for the holders in their 3-0 win over Falkirk thanks to goals from from James Forrest - on his first start since September - Ryan Christie and Mohamed Elyounoussi.

It keeps their hopes of a fifth successive Scottish Cup win - and their hopes of silverware this season - alive with the win over the League One side.

Winger Forrest was the stand-out for the home side but Kennedy admits the 29-year-old was gutted after the full-time whistle.

The stand-in boss told Premier Sports: "He has had a really tough time.

"He's been out for a long period.

"He works ever so hard and he's one of the best professionals I've ever seen.

"It was terrific for him, it was great to see him as the game progressed you can see him sharpening up, and I said to him if you can give us what you've got then let me know. It was good that he got over 70 minutes and got his goal.

"He could probably have got another one as well, so he was frustrated at that, but it's good have him back."

Forrest 's deflected effort opened the scoring during an impressive display.

Moments later Christie doubled the advantage with a well-hit effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Elyounoussi rounded off the scoring with a brilliant bit of skill to dink the ball over Robbie Mutch from close range.

Kennedy hoped this would the start of a run at the trophy, adding: "It's an important first step in hopefully another bit of success.

"My experience of that first game back after an international break, you have guys playing with a number of different teams, playing three games , travelling from different times, your prep isn't perfect.

"It was good that we got them all together, and gave guys minutes that needed it, and it puts a squad in a better place."
