James Forrest in Celtic injury setback as Neil Lennon reveals rehab blow

Celtic will be without James Forrest for a little longer after the winger suffered a setback in his rehab.

The Scotland star hasn't played since a Europa League clash with Riga in September and was expected to return to training last week.

But Neil Lennon has revealed he suffered a knock in his rehab and won't join the first team group until next week at the earliest.

And it's likely to be into March before he plays for the Hoops again when he gets back up to full speed and fitness ahead of the run-in.

Lennon admits it's been a huge blow for Celtic to be without Forrest, with the winger being so consistent over recent seasons.

He's also a miss for Scotland and will be hoping to get fit to make the Euro 2020 squad in the summer.

And Lennon said: "In terms of a timescale, he (Forrest) had a wee bit of a setback on his rehab so we’re just sort of keeping an eye on it and scrutinising it as closely as we can.

"We want him to come back right and fresh and hit the ground running because he’s been out for a long time and it’s a real body blow for him and us.

"I can’t give you a timescale but it shouldn’t be too far in the distant future. We’re hoping he can begin training next week and if that’s the case he might need a week or two to get adjusted to the training sharpness and the cardio work that’s involved with that and then you’ll see him in the squad again."
