James Crumbly Trial: Opening Statements Begin In Pontiac Courthouse

James Crumbly faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter.

We are just minutes away from opening statements in the trial of James Crumbly, the father of the Oxford High School shooter. Crumbly faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter, the same charges his wife, Jennifer, was convicted of last month. The proceedings are set to begin at 8:30 this morning in Pontiac, inside the courthouse. The jury, consisting of 15 members including three alternates, was seated yesterday after two days of jury selection.

James Crumbly is accused of buying the gun used in the deadly shooting at Oxford High School in November 2021, where his son killed four students and injured seven others. The prosecution alleges that Crumbly did not properly store the gun, enabling his son to access it and carry out the tragic incident.

The jury, comprising nine women and six men, underwent questioning regarding their views on mental health, gun ownership, parental responsibility, and relationships with their children. These individuals will ultimately determine the fate of James Crumbly in this trial.

Opening statements, scheduled to commence shortly, will provide a roadmap of the evidence and arguments that will unfold over the next two weeks of the trial. The proceedings are expected to delve into issues of parental responsibility, gun control, and the tragic events that transpired at Oxford High School.

Notably, James Crumbly's wife, Jennifer, was previously found guilty of the same charges, along with additional counts of murder and child abuse related to the actions of their child. The trial of James Crumbly represents a critical juncture in seeking justice for the victims of the Oxford High School shooting.
