James Corden gives brutally honest answer about Gavin & Stacey at the Oscars 2020 that will leave fans disappointed

James Corden disappointed fans of Gavin & Stacey as he admitted there are no plans for him and Ruth Jones to write any more.

The 41-year-old was speaking at the Oscars from the red carpet, and said that he and co-creator, Jones would have to see if they could come up with something that "didn't ruin it" first before they gave the go-ahead.

The recent Christmas special was the most watched comedy in 17 years and attracted 18.49m viewers.

“I'm being completely honest, there are no plans to do any more because a lot of it is about time and distance,” he told the BBC at the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony.

"I think Ruth [Jones] and I, if we ever were going to do any we approach it in the same manner we did the last one to try and just do it on our own and see if we felt we had something that wouldn't ruin it.

"Because it's all well and good people saying that they would like another one, and that is hugely flattering, but they only want one that doesn't tarnish it in any way.

"So we're going to really try our best to give it some thought at the least, but there is no plans - as it stands right now - to ever make another one."

Last month Ruth Jones appeared at the National Television Awards, where the show received the Impact Award, and told the audience the same thing, that there were no plans for another special.

She said: "We don't have any plans at all (for a new series). That's the truth.

"We still have the same situation, which is that James and I live on different continents, so getting together to write is very difficult, so who knows? At the moment there are no plans."
