James Corden teases Gavin and Stacey's Christmas comeback

He delighted fans when he announced that Gavin and Stacey would be making a comeback, and now James Corden has added a few more, very vague details, about his plans.

Corden, who created the show alongside Ruth Jones, announced the news of a Christmas return for the Essex and Barry Island favourites last month.

The hit BBC series last aired nearly a decade ago and another outing of the clan was more than welcomed by fans.

Speaking in The Sunday Times Culture magazine, Corden has said that he felt "life was too short" not to give the much-loved series another go.

The 40-year-old, who also played Smithy in the programme, said: "We owed it to the characters... We wanted to see if there was something there, and for a while we weren't sure.

"Then, once there was, my feeling was, life's too short. Fear is the absolute reason to do it."

He was also asked whether the top political debate of Brexit would make an appearance in the special between the families but Corden has completely ruled it out - even if it was considered.

"We did talk about it," he said, "But we just want the new show to be a nostalgic joy-bomb."

And a nostalgic joy-bomb is just what we need!

Gavin and Stacey broadcast over three series (plus a Christmas special) from 2007 to 2010 on the BBC, with the last episode on New Year's Day in 2010 being watched by more than 10 million people.

Matthew Horne and Joanna Page will reprise their lead roles as Gavin & Stacey (BABY COW)

The new special will see Mathew Horne and Joanna Page return to their lead roles as Gavin and Stacey.

Corden and Jones will reprise their roles as Smithy and Nessa, alongside the other supporting cast members - Larry Lamb, Rob Brydon, Melanie Walters and Alison Steadman.

Lamb, who plays Gavin's dad Mick, has already been teasing the long-awaited special , saying that he cried over the 'poignant' script.
