James Corden makes passionate plea for gun control after mass shootings in Ohio and Texas

James Corden has given an emotional speech on camera about the double mass shootings in America over the weekend.

The 40-year-old, who's recently been filming the upcoming Gavin & Stacey Christmas special in Barry, last night used the opening monologue of his hit Stateside chat show to address the separate incidents in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, which left a total of 29 dead and more than two dozen injured in the space of 24 hours.

"Since we started this show, almost four-and-a-half years ago, there have been 1,601 mass shootings, 1,820 deaths and 6,890 people wounded in those incidents in America," said Corden, who took over as host of CBS' The Late Late Show in March 2015.

"Tonight in Ohio and Texas there are children going to bed without their parents, parents going to bed without their children.

"I'm heartbroken by the very thought of everyone who never got the chance to say goodbye to their loved ones, simply because they went back-to-school shopping at Walmart or wanted to grab something to drink at a bar with friends.

"The sadness of it all is overwhelming and our hearts are with all the families affected.

"But, until we really confront this issue and have politicians with the moral courage to face the gun epidemic, the only thing that's going to change is the location of the next mass shooting and number of casaulties."

To illustrate his point, Corden also ran a montage of all the other tributes he's made following recent similar massacres that have occurred since he took up his tenure as host of the programme, including Oregon and California in 2015, Orlando, Florida in 2016 and Las Vegas in 2017, the latter the biggest of its kind in US history.

"I hope so much we never have to witness such unnecessary devastation again," he added.
