James Corden announces possible return of Carpool Karaoke

In a sure-fire sign that life could be returning to normal James Corden has teased that Carpool Karaoke could make its return this summer.

The Gavin and Stacey star, 42, has hosted Michelle Obama, Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney in his car to sing along to their favourite songs, racking up millions of views before the viral series was cut short by the pandemic.

Fellow talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres grilled him on a possible return date on her show, Corden said: “I don’t know really, we wonder when someone will tell us it’s OK.

“I don’t know, I’m hopeful for the end of summer or autumn time that we’ll be able to do it again.

“It feels like there’s a whole raft of artists that we’re desperate to do it with that have had the most incredible last few years.”

British singer Adele holds the title as the most-watched Carpool Karaoke on YouTube.

The episode premiered on YouTube in January 2016 and now has more than 237 million views.

In one of his favourite moments from series, Stevie Wonder serenaded Corden’s wife, Julia, over the phone with a personalised version of I Just Called To Say I Love You.

“What’s on TV was really moving, I couldn’t help but be overwhelmed with it,” Corden boasted to Ellen.

“So much of my life, I just think, “if this was an auction prize, this would go for millions of dollars”.

“Stevie Wonder is going to call your wife and sing “I just called to say James loves you”.

“I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve so many memories.”

Corden also revealed his TV producer wife was in a restaurant toilet when the Motown legend called.

Corden recently attracted criticism on social media after being selected by the Friends cast to host their HBO reunion show where they revisited iconic moments from the series.

One disgruntled Friends fan, tweeted: “I was looking forward to the #FriendsReunion until I found out James Corden was hosting.
