James Corden and Rose Byrne are in talks to star in a film based on Beatrix Potter’s much-loved creation Peter Rabbit.

The British actor and talk-show host will voice the titular character while the Bridesmaids and Spy star is in talks to join him. The film will be a hybrid of live action and animation and is set to be directed by Will Gluck, whose credits include Easy A and Annie.

It will be a contemporary, comedic take on the source material, focusing on the rivalry between Peter Rabbit and Mr McGregor. The character was previously brought to life in BBC show The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends.

After roles in The History Boys and The Three Musketeers, Corden found fame in the US with talk-show The Late Late Show with James Corden. His recent film roles have included Into the Woods and Kill Your Friends. He is also voicing a character in Trolls.

Byrne was last seen in sequels Bad Neighbours 2 and X-Men: Apocalypse. She will next be heard providing her voice in the Australian animation The Larrikins alongside Margot Robbie and Hugh Jackman, and recently signed up to star with Oprah Winfrey in HBO drama The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
