The 83rd annual Dapper Dan Dinner & Sports Auction was held on Wednesday night. The Dapper Dan Charities is one of the oldest non-profit and fundraising community sports club in the world. They game out some awards to Western Pennsylvania athletes including Pittsburgh Steelers’ running back James Conner. He was named Sportsman of the Year and in his acceptance speech made sure everyone knows where his loyalties lie.
I couldn’t be Pittsburgh Dapper Dan Sportsman of the Year without getting that call. If anybody has anything else nice to say, make sure you say it to [Art Rooney II], because I want to be a Steeler for life.
Conner took over the starting running back job and earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl. Now with the Le’Veon Bell fiasco finally coming to a merciful end, Conner doesn’t have to look over his shoulder and can instead just focus on being the next great Steelers’ running back.
