James Carpenter headed to Atlanta after 4 seasons with Jets

James Carpenter has found a new home.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the guard is expected to sign a four-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons after four years in New York. Financials have yet to be reported.

Carpenter signed with the Jets back in 2015 and has been a staple of the offensive line ever since. He never missed a game in his first three years with the Jets and was a solid run blocker.

However, Carpenter went down with a shoulder injury in Week 11 this past season. He started the first 10 games of the season before the Jets ultimately placed him on injured reserve.

New York moved on from the 29-year-old rather quickly when it traded for Kelechi Osemele from the Raiders for a fifth-round pick. He’ll take over Carpenter’s left guard position.

The Jets are set at both guard positions with Osemele and Brian Winters. They still need to acquire a center and potentially a left tackle to solidify the offensive line.

Carpenter, meanwhile, will go from protecting Sam Darnold to blocking for Matt Ryan.
