James Buckley disappoints The Inbetweeners fans insisting he'll never return to the show

James Buckley has disappointed fans of The Inbetweeners by saying he'll 'never return to the show'.

The actor, 34, played sex-mad teen Jay Cartwright in the smash hit offering from Channel 4.

Fans loved his awkward antics over three seasons and two spin-off films, but James says the character won't be making a comeback.

Radio DJ Chris Moyles asked the actor whether he'd consider returning to the series on his show Radio X.

He said: “If the people who wrote The Inbetweeners said ‘we’ve got a new script’ - it’s basically what everyone’s up to now - do you want to see it? You’d say yes?”

He told Chris even all the money in the world wouldn't make him change his decision (PA)

While James admitted that the role of Jay was “the best job in the world”, he unequivocally replied: "No."

Chris was taken aback and asked: “You don’t even want to read it?”

Trying to explain his reasoning James said: “Not because I don't think I would have an amazing time doing it, because I know I would.

"It was the best job in the world, but it might - you know, as I'm getting older - it's looking like it might be the only thing that I do professionally that is universally loved.

“There's not enough money in the world for me to spoil that.”

James starred in the show alongside Joe Thomas, Simon Bird and Blake Harrison, who played Simon Cooper, Will McKenzie and Neil Sutherland respectively.

Despite not wishing to make a return to the gang, James is said to have been raking in some serious cash after charging fans £42 for personalised 30-second videos on Cameo.

James joined the celebrity video platform in 2020 and has amassed 4,500 five-star reviews from delighted Inbetweeners fans.

His description on the website reads: "Actor, Jay - Inbetweeners. I’ll wish a friend happy birthday, maybe you want me to propose to your significant other “jay style” or perhaps you just want me to call someone busw****r?"

The actors made two spin-off films from the show (PA)

As reported by Daily Star, the actor has earned around £800,000 from the shoutouts and last month had amassed more bookings than any other star on the platform.

And it seems as if Inbetweeners fans can't get enough of their beloved Jay with one fan writing: "Absolutely brilliant!!

"It was just what I wanted. Thank you so much James. I will be in his good books forever now.’"

While another added: "Delivered on time. My girlfriend loved it. Thank you.’"

Croydon-born James married girlfriend Claire Meek in 2012.

The couple have two sons together Harrison and Jude, who are named after George Harrison and the Beatles' song, Hey Jude.

All three seasons of The Inbetweeners are available to watch on All 4.
