James Botham set for Wales debut against Georgia amid 13 changes - reports

James Botham is set to make his Wales debut against Georgia having trained only twice with the squad following his call-up this week, according to reports.

Wales boss Wayne Pivac is desperate to record a win after a string of six successive defeats, which has piled the pressure on the New Zealander.

But, according to The Telegraph, 22-year-old Cardiff Blues flanker Botham, grandson of Ian Botham and son of former Cardiff back Liam, will be handed a shock debut at Parc y Scarlets this Saturday.

Openside Botham has been thrust up the ladder with Josh Navidi, who is suffering with concussion, and Ross Moriarty, who has an ankle issue, both set to miss the Autumn Nations Cup clash with the Georgians.

The back-rower has appeared just 13 times for the Blues but has represented Wales both at youth level and in sevens.

It is thought, too, that there will be debuts for centre Johnny Williams and scrum-half Kieran Hardy and first starts for Gloucester flyer Louis Rees-Zammit and Bristol Bears fly-half Callum Sheedy as Pivac bids to add some much-needed zip and creativity to the back line.

Nick Tompkins is also set for a recall in the centre alongside Johnny Williams, while fellow Scarlet Johnny McNicholl is thought to be in line to start on the opposite wing to Rees-Zammit.

Following Wales' drubbing against Ireland last weekend, it is reported only Justin Tipuric, who will likely skipper the side, and Liam Williams will keep their place from the starting XV which was named for the Dublin debacle last Friday.

Reported Wales XV to face Georgia: L Williams; McNicholl, Tompkins, J Williams, Rees-Zammit; Sheedy, Hardy; Jones, Dee, Lee, Ball, Davies, Tipuric (capt), Botham, Wainwright.

Pivac is due to name his team on Thursday.
